Costa Rica
Whale Watching
Two oceans send their whales here to raise their young.
Humpbacks arrive from both hemispheres — southern pods riding in around July, northern pods following by December — giving Costa Rica's Pacific one of the longest whale seasons on the planet. Off Uvita, mothers teach calves to breach beside a sandbar shaped like a whale's tail, while pods of dolphins cut through Golfo Dulce alongside the boats.
