1. Why we're telling you this
When software makes suggestions or answers your questions, you deserve to know whether a person or a machine is behind it. This page explains where Kaia uses artificial intelligence, what it does and doesn't decide, and how we handle your data when we use it.
2. Where Kaia uses AI
Kaia's AI features are built on Anthropic's Claude API. As they come online, they include:
- Recommendations & search help — surfacing experiences that fit what you're looking for.
- Trip concierge (Kaia+) — drafting a personalized multi-day itinerary from your preferences.
- Support assistance — helping answer common questions faster, with a human always available.
- Fraud pre-screening — flagging unusual bookings for a human on our team to review.
Honest status: most of these are planned or partially built. They activate once the AI backend is connected, and this page will stay accurate as they go live.
3. A human decides anything that matters
AI at Kaia assists; it does not have the final say on anything with real consequences. A person confirms operator verification, resolves disputes and refunds, and makes the call on any booking an automated system flags. You can always reach a human — AI is never a wall between you and our team.
4. What we send the model, and your data
When an AI feature runs, we send Claude only the minimum context needed for that task — for example, the trip preferences you entered for an itinerary, not your full account history. We do not use your personal data to train AI models, and Anthropic processes this data on our behalf as a service provider, under its own terms.
Our handling of your personal data — including any processed by an AI feature — is governed by our Privacy Policy and Costa Rica's Law 8968.
5. AI can be wrong
AI-generated suggestions — a recommended tour, a drafted itinerary, a support answer — can be incomplete or mistaken. Treat them as a helpful starting point, not a guarantee. For anything that affects your money, your safety, or your plans, confirm the details with the operator or with our team before you rely on them.
6. Questions or feedback
If an AI feature gave you a bad answer, or you have a question about how we use AI, write to hola@kaia.cr. Feedback is how we make these features better and safer.
